Dr. Brendan J Murphy

President, Cork Institute of Technology
A native of Tralee in Co. Kerry, Dr Murphy is a Mathematics and Statistics graduate and has lectured in Mathematical and Computer Sciences at CIT since 1974.
A Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and of the Irish Computer Society, he is also a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland .
Multi-lingual and widely published, he was Head of the Department of Mathematics and Computing at CIT from 1988 to 2003 and Head of School of Computing and Mathematics from 2003 until he took up the position of President of Cork Institute of Technology in 2004. During that time he has established partnerships throughout Europe and served on numerous Advisory Boards.
He chaired the Government Skills Initiative Body for the development of accelerated computer courses from 1997 to 2004. He is Chair of An Chéim and a director of HEAnet.
